I was quite moved by Scottie's recent post over at the Heartland titled "Little Charlie and Me". He wrote beautifully about looking into the face of the precious child in his arms, and seeing another face...the face of God. There were many comments from readers of moving experiences along the same vein...how amazing newborn life is...the wonder of it all.
Someone visiting my blog recently asked if I believe in God.
We all believe in something. We all have faith, whether or not we believe in God. We have faith the sun will rise every morning, and will set every night. We have faith that the earth will continue turning, and the stars will be there after each sunset. We have faith that life originated from a chaotic Big Bang billions of years ago, or we have faith life came from the hand of a creative God.
Our faith determines how we view ourselves and the world. Are our rights given by the Creator, or by human governments? Are there higher laws that govern creation, or just laws created by man? Is there a purpose for our lives here on earth, or is there no special reason why we're here?
So, in essence we all have faith in something...
This is what I have faith in: I have faith in the existence of God who claimed to be Creator, Redeemer and Coming King. Everytime I write a check, the date on that check referres to the birth of Christ. His birth split time...into BC and AD.
I believe he is who he said he is, "The Truth The Way and the Life".
There's a beautiful song "Mary Did You Know" which asks the question of the mother of Jesus..."Mary did you know your baby boy has walked where angels trod, and when you look into his face you see the face of God, Mary did you know"?
Each day that I live, I believe is a gift. A gift from God. And I believe that little child, born so humbly, who died so violently, who's resurrection we celebrate in Spring, indeed is God.
