Are Environmentalists Putting Our Nation at Risk?

Since the politicians in the majority continue to succumb to environmentalist pressures not  to let us increase our oil supplies, should  President Bush step up to the plate and sign an executive order to save the country from an oil crisis?

I'm not an expert on executive orders, but I'm assuming that is an option which the president could consider under the current oil situation with the demands increasing in China and India,  prices going sky high, and our dependence on foreign oil putting the country in a serious predicament.

We can't afford to be depending on unstable governments for our oil. We must start taking steps to allow more offshore drilling, open the Arctic National Wild Life Refuge to oil exploration, along with research into other energy sources, if we don't want to  face a dangerous crisis down the road.

It seems if the elected officials had the best interest of the country at heart they would have taken action back in  1990 to drill in Alaska, and by now we would have the oil supplies needed to keep the prices and supply under control.

Would an executive order be our only option with the current do-nothing congress?
